Walking guide
Nikki McFall
It all started when…
Lockdown happened! In between jobs I had a month free time, but with lockdown I couldn’t go too far. Then the idea came to walk the first stage of the Westweg. The Westweg is a long distance hike of 285km through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Basel requiring around 12 days.
After the success of completing the first stage, I quickly arranged to walk the next stage a few days later. It wasn’t long before I was hooked and gaining confidence to plan multi-day hikes to complete the trail. My drive to complete the Westweg grew into continuing along the E1 - One of the European long distance routes from Nordkapp to Sicily covering a distance of 7,114km that travels along the Westweg as far as Feldberg before heading in a different direction.
Balancing passion with life commitments, I walk in stages when time allows. I’ve completed 1,200km to date, and in planning for the next phase. Future excursions will be available in the following blog page for those interested to follow my hiking boot journey.
What next..
Well this passion for walking, had an impact on my career. I found myself loosing motivation in my well paid job in management in the Aerospace industry and knew I had to make a change.
In the Autumn of 2024 I qualified as a Wanderführerin with the Deutscher Wander Verband (DWV), and Natur- und Landschaftsführerin Schwarzwald with the Akademie für Natur- und Umweltschutz Baden-Württemberg (BANU) , through the member club Schwarzwaldverein e.V.
My offer as a hiking guide is to provide a break from everyday life, to enjoy the great outdoors, awaken the senses and energise the body through gentle exercises en route.
Planned hikes can be found in the calendar, or directly in the shop.
